You guys know that I love a good planner, especially one HOT off the presses!  I recently received the Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 from The Old Schoolhouse to review.  This planner is designed to help you through the school year so it actually starts in July of 2016 and runs through June 2017 which is perfect for us for planning ahead to this fall when we formally start school again.
Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 Review Hey Mama, Schoolhouse Planner, Homeschool Organization, school planner

The Old Schoolhouse is a website jam packed full of information, encouragement, and products for homeschoolers.  I found it not long before I joined the Schoolhouse Review Crew and I can't tell you how much I access this site for different homeschool things from questions to encouragement to looking for homeschool products to checking out what has become some of my favorite magazines - The Old Schoolhouse Magazine and Molly Green Magazine.  So from my past experience with this website I knew that the Hey Mama! Print Planner would be great, I just didn't know how great it would be.  I have to admit here that I had an idea of what would be included in the print planner because through the review crew I am member of (which is associated with The Old Schoolhouse site) and they have a digital version of the Hey Mama! Planner on their website that you can download.  I already had downloaded last year's digital version of this planner to see what it is all about.  Also when you become a member of you can get access to the digital version of this year's planner (which would allow you to print extra pages if you need them) along with other digital student planners.
Yearly Calendar Pages
Lined page for notes each month
Monthly Calendar Pages
Anyway, let't talk more about this Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse planner that we received.  It is a spiral bound, 192 page planner and it has pretty much everything you will need to plan and organize your homeschool year.  Other features of this planner include:
  • 2016-2018 Yearly calendars (these are "at a glance style" so you can see the whole year on one page)
  • Two page monthly calendars for July 2016 - June 2017 with room to write in appointments or dates.
  • A full lined page for notes for each month before the monthly calendar.
  • 36 Weekly calendar pages that are undated and unlabeled so you can write our your weekly schedule as you choose.
  • Goal planning pages for the month, semester, and year.
  • 180 Day Attendance Charts
  • Reading Logs
  • Curriculum Planning Sheets
  • Homeschool Contact List
  • Writing Prompts
  • Story Starters
  • Timelines
  • Various History Charts
  • Transcript Guidelines and a form
  • Skills Learned Chart
  • Other Courses Log
Weekly Calendar Pages
Goals Pages
Attendance Chart
So as you can see this planner is packed full of so much helpful stuff it really makes putting together you plans simple.  I have not told you one of my favorite features of the Hey Mama! Planner yet and that is the Hey Mama encouraging notes written by Gena Suarez, the publisher at The Old Schoolhouse website that are sprinkled throughout the planner.  They are heartfelt, honest, and touching.  I haven't read them all yet because I want to save some for when I am in the thick of school.  I also really like the pages that are spread throughout the planner and include information about historical items and facts on them.  I am a trivia geek and these pages totally make me happy.
Reading Log
Curriculum Planning Sheet
Writing Prompts
I have started using my planner already.  I used the yearly calendar to figure out when our school will start, end, and which days we will have off for breaks.  I have our 180 days picked out.  We will start school August 10, 2016 and finish on May 5, 2017.  At least that is my current plan.  I started going through each monthly calendar and writing down things I already know we have coming up.  I also started filling out the dates of the weekly calendars to match our school year.  I will be using this planner as my assignment planner for Buddy as we are changing from using an "open and go" curriculum to doing unit studies along with our Math, History, and Science.  Switching to the direction of unit studies is a decision that we have made in the last week so I have to decide where we will start with that and this planner is going to come in perfect for that.  I will be using the currciulum planning sheets for the products we already have and the ones we will be purchasing.  Right now my mind is a little overwhelmed with the decision to switch back to me piecing together his curriculum so I haven't pulled a lot of this information yet.  I really am still in a little bit of shock how quickly God set the idea of unit studies in front of me and how quickly we all (in my family) got on board with this idea.  I will be using the rest of June and July to do the planning for this.  My intended use for this planner is to fill it with the assignments Buddy will have for each subject, each day and week.  Then when school starts he can pull it out and know what I will be teaching and what he needs to complete each day.  It gives me one place to list everything and he can grab it just like he used to grab my teaching binder that had the "open and go" curriculum in it before.  I will definitely do another post when I get it all planned out so you can see what my finished planning looks like.
